IEP Advocacy, Tier 1 Behavior Support, and Compassionate Behavior Change in Schools

Abstract The Back to School 2023 training provides practical guidance for behavior analysts, educators, and advocates working within school systems. The first portion highlights the role of IEP advocates, clarifying how they support families, navigate special education law, and collaborate with BCBAs to ensure student needs are met in educational settings. The second portion, led by the Learning Behavior Analysis team, focuses on evidence-based universal classroom practices that improve student behavior and learning outcomes. The training walks through how to implement and coach these strategies using Behavior Skills Training (BST), with emphasis on feasible integration into school environments. Practical tools and free resources are shared to promote sustainable school-based behavior analytic practice.
